  • 摘要: 约翰·斯图尔特·福斯特是加拿大杰出的物理学家，曾任麦吉尔大学麦克唐纳物理学教授、辐射实验室主任，并获得麦吉尔大学荣休教授头衔。他在麦吉尔大学任职期间重塑了该校的物理学研究，对该校乃至加拿大物理学的发展产生了深远影响。福斯特在斯塔克效应实验领域取得显著成就，他带领的研究团队做出多项重要工作，使麦吉尔大学在20世纪30年代成为加拿大在光谱学研究领域的重镇。福斯特主持建造的回旋加速器更是为麦吉尔大学的核物理学带来了复兴，在加拿大物理学发展史上具有里程碑意义。福斯特在麦吉尔大学培养了超过百名硕士和博士，为加拿大物理学输送了大量人才。文章通过回顾福斯特的学术生涯和研究工作，分析并总结了他对麦吉尔大学以及加拿大的物理学发展所做出的卓越贡献。
